WHEN YOU’RE FEELING HOPELESS, HERE ARE 14 BIBLE VERSES ABOUT PROMISES GOD MADE YOU THAT WILL GIVE YOU PEACE AND COURAGE.
Whenever I’m having a hard day, God’s Word gives me strength.
Especially His promises.
Do you know why? Because His word is a living book. It’s always relevant, regardless of your circumstances or life season, and it’s always restorative, no matter where you’ve been. There’s something profound about reflecting on promises God made you… it opens you up, breaks down your walls, so He can gather up your broken pieces.
His words are meant to bring peace. Joy. Strength. Trust. Forgiveness. And so many other virtues.
How to Reflect on the Promises God Made You
Now, hold up. You may understand that the promises God made are powerful if you let them infiltrate your heart…
But you may be wondering, how do you go about doing that?
How do you move your knowledge of God (in your mind) to a relationship with God (in your heart), taking these promises He has given you and transforming them into a lasting sense of security and power?

Here are three tips for getting started doing just that:
Tip 1: Remember the Promises God Made by Writing Them Down
I have found that writing down God’s promises is one of my new favorite things!
In the Bible, God encouraged His prophets to write things down (Habakkuk 2:2; Jeremiah 30:2-3).
He encourages His people (including us!) to do it too (Deuteronomy 6:9).
I think He knew–since He created us–that in order for us to have a better chance at remembering His Truths, we would need to write them down by hand. Because you know, research says we impress upon our minds and better remember the things we write down.
I started a bulletin board in my office for this very thing. I write my favorite verses and post them there, so I can see them every day. (I also have a prayer notebook for more detailed thoughts and scriptures.)
Tip 2: Remember the Promises God Made by Speaking Them to Others
God created us to be in community with others. There are numerous verses about our connection as a church family, in aiding one another in times of physical and spiritual need. One way to remember the promises God made is to tell others about them!
Whether you are seeking to encourage them with the Truth, or you’re using them as a sounding board for your own growth and development, speaking the Truth found in God’s Word can become a life source for your both.
Tip 3: Remember the Promises God Made by Praying Them to God
I first stopped to take notice of this approach while reading Priscilla Shirer’s book Fervent. I hadn’t thought before about praying scripture. Not seriously.
I think I wrote it off, to be honest. I think I thought it was redundant. Scripture is God’s own words, after all. Weren’t my prayers supposed to be mine instead of His?
Well, yes and no.
The astonishing thing I learned while praying the promises God made in Scripture is that it’s another level of connection with God. By praying a powerful verse in a moment of heartache, I can suddenly see that verse in a deeper, more textured light. The meaning takes on nuances I didn’t know existed beforehand.
Also, praying Scripture reminded me of Who was in control. Who had the wheel. It kept God in His rightful place, on the throne of my heart. It prompted me to start using these verses in a relevant way–applying them daily to the situations I find myself in.
